Descriptions of individual classes for RISA-3D, RISAFloor and RISATower training courses.
In addition to verbal instruction, each class uses a number of real-world examples to illustrate and clarify each concept as it is being taught. Many of the example models will be built in class to help participants learn and remember the concepts. Please feel free to call us with any particular questions regarding these classes. Each participant will receive the class notes, example problems on disk, a certificate of completion and 8 PDH per training day.
RISA Technologies’ training staff consists entirely of engineers with extensive design experience. Learn More
RISA Headquarters (Foothill Ranch, Calif.)
Covers modeling basics such as boundary conditions, local versus global direction loads, member orientation definition, member end releases and offsets, AISC and NDS code checking and shape database editing. Also provides basic training in the use of RISA-3D, with an emphasis on effective use of our graphic tools to manipulate the model including drawing and editing. Spreadsheet operations, cutting and pasting, and efficient results review will round out the day for this course.
Prerequisite: Prior completion of the RISA-3D tutorial
Cost: $400 per person
Provides an in-depth discussion of the RISA-3D plate finite element and how to use it effectively. Also covered is slave nodes, automatic rigid diaphragm modeling (strengths and weaknesses), moving loads, tension/compression only members and springs and the analysis and design of tapered members. Attention will be given to the use of the graphic methods of modeling and results review.
Prerequisite: Prior completion of the RISA-3D tutorial and Course 1.
Cost: $400 per person
Provides practical training in dynamic analysis concepts in general and specific training in the use of RISA-3D to perform dynamic analysis. Topics also covered include mass and stiffness modeling concepts, mode shapes and frequencies (what they are and what they’re good for), local vs. global modes, mass participation, response spectra analysis (RSA) and RSA combination methods (SRSS, CQC, Gupta).
Prerequisite: Prior completion of the RISA-3D tutorial and Course 1.
Cost: $400 per person
The standard comprehensive course is a combination of courses 1, 2 and 3.
Prerequisite: Prior completion of the RISA-3D tutorial
Cost: $1000 per person

Advanced Structural Modeling
Provides an in-depth discussion of the RISA-3D plate finite element and how to use it effectively. Also covered is slave nodes, automatic rigid diaphragm modeling (strengths and weaknesses), moving loads, tension/compression only members and springs and the analysis and design of tapered members. Attention will be given to the use of the graphic methods of modeling and results review.
Note: Only 20 seats are available for each class. All attendees must furnish their own laptop computer and mouse.
Cost: $800 per person and includes breakfast and lunch both days (lodging not included).

Day 1
Students will go through hands on training examples to learn how to efficiently model floor systems in RISAFloor. Real world examples are used to demonstrate basic modeling concepts such as project grid creation, composite beam design, deck properties and live load reduction.
Day 2
Provides advanced instruction on steel joists, concrete design and multi-story modeling. Also covered is the RISA-3D integration including automatic generation of wind and seismic loads as well as design of cantilever beams.
Prerequisite: Prior completion of Day 1 & 2 of the RISA-3D Training Course or proficient use of RISA-3D.
Cost: $750 per person
